Hobopolis Run?
« on: October 29, 2009, 03:42:19 pm »
Just out of curiosity... is anyone interested in doing another Hobopolis run? i've kinda blown my funds on caustic nodules and need to lvl up a bit so i can handle +720 ML a bit easier. it's not the slimes... it's the effect that's killing me <_< . As it is... i have to heal every 4-3 turns and i'm using a chamoix every turn :P
So, if you're interested in doing a Hobo run... post here so I know if we have enough interest to open it or not :P

I think I've decided to try and get the level 30 DB trophy, mostly because I'm too lazy to ascend for the time being but I feel like I need to have some sort of aim to keep myself adventuring :P

So I'll have the turns to burn. Although as I demonstrated last run with my low damage output and inability to dodge the hobos DB isn't such a great choice so don't be expecting great things from me :P

Edit - would you actually want to try for a speed run or would we just be going through it like we did last time?

I'm still stuck in HC, but once I get through that, sure, I can jump in with HC oxy gear... which hopefully actually helps. I have no idea how hobopolis works yet.

El Juan is always ready for a Hobo run. If we aren't going for speed, that's probably best. I don't think we have nearly the capacity to do a quick run yet.

Also, Gal, the +720 ML slime damage is based on your total HP, and is always a percentage of that. Therefore, it doesn't matter how much you level, you will always be burning through Hp restorers. That's why it was going to be really tough through all that crap.

Anyway, let me know what will be going down, I've got turns to burn too!

we certainly won't be trying a speed run... i don't think we're anywhere close being ready for that, but i think that we have the numbers we had last time we ran it... so i'll be opening the sewers in the next few days most likely... probably tonight after rollover

Started going through the sewers today before I realised that I only actually had 3 areas in my hobo binder :P Think I managed to get most of the ones currently available to me so I should be able to make a proper start tomorrow :)

Edit - also do you want some meat towards the cost of the nodules and opening the hobopolis gal? I've only got a couple of mil on hand at the moment but I can probably scrape together quite a bit more if I actually went through my inventory so don't worry that you'll be clearing me out :P

Now that I can run more +item gear on the bosses (upwards of 300%), we'll probably get more out of the bosses, and therefore the costs can be neutralized slightly.

Now, once I get Tyred_Soul out of the BM loop, I will be getting through some softcore runs for some relaxation, and in doing so, I will be able to craft and smith and do whatever else for the sewer items. These we can sell for the clan in the mall to recoup some of our losses. The craftable things sell quite well, especially to clans that are all about the speed runs and need each item to pass the tests.

That being said, I also try and get the 10k stuff from each zone if possible.

Note: don't do that in the ice zone. I did for a few turns til I actually looked up what the frozen banquet did and how much it sold for :P I'd have been better off taking the frozen banquets, selling them and giving the proceeds to the clan by far <_<

Also, I was feeling kind of chuffed being able to run +180% items on the normal enemies (I got my soft shoes btw :)), you running +300% on the bosses makes me feel bad :P

Hobopolis has kept me pretty busy -- I've been at work killing hobos in the hopes of getting the zones and stuff unlocked, in the mean time gathering hobo bits here for scarehobos and there and the occasional clearing out the pathway to the bosses.

However, I do have one small request... and I'm kinda sorry for asking this, but when and IF someone other than me kills Frosty... may I call dibs on the arm, or are there other plans for that?

Pretty sure everyone is gonna be wanting the arm if it drops :P We probably do need to sort out some kind of officialish system for deciding who gets drops.

Ratio equal to turns spent with every person getting one before people start getting multiples? So if A spends 551 turns, B spends 1217 turns and C spends 724 turns is 22%:49%:29% or around 1:2.5:1.5

Cept in that example I'd be inclined to give each person equal and the person who spent the most turns just gets first choice.

Or we could just do a lottery system if there's an item more than one person happens to want :P

Heh, I made the request on the assumption that pretty much already everyone else had gotten all the hobo gear. Whoops!

But I don't see much of a problem with the former system, to be honest. There is one small thing I would like to add, though -- if the person has received the item on a previous Hobopolis run and can not actually make use of another one, then he or she shouldn't be eligible to receive another one. IMO, that's hoarding items that other clan members could definitely make use of.

I doubt that'll be a problem, really, but just in case it does happen. =P

Welcome to the forums, Manny!

Anyway, regarding all the loot and whatnot, here's how our last run broke down:

We had only three people really able to dungeon-dive: Galeesa, GPH, and me (El Juan). El Juan (my multi) essentially beat every boss except for Chester, because Hamster decided to get a good whack at it. Back then, I (he) was only a level 23 sauceror or so. Now I'm almost Lvl 31 on that, so things were tougher. The loot we got (as little as there was, because I couldn't handle a whole lot) was divided mostly between Galeesa and GPH. I took the sauceror stuff because that is my exclusive character and I will not ascend with El Juan again. So, Ol' Scratch's stuff mostly went to me, and I divided everything else on lines drawn from ascension history. The Hoboverlord gear was divided between Gal and GPH also, with El Jaun getting nothing on that one.

Essentially, El Juan is running the dungeons for fun and profit, as best he (I) can, and dividing most of the loot for everyone else. The sauceror stuff I have a particular want for, since that is my class. The Hoboverlord stuff is REALLY nice, but I wasn't going to be selfish enough to claim hobo stuff for a multi. I just took the crap no one else wanted.

Now that we have four people (three really) runninng the dungeon, things will get a bit more complicated, but I'm sure we can work something out like GPH said. I do agree with your point about "hoarding" items though. But that won't be a problem for a while. We're noobs at this.

Someday, we hope to have enough cash to run these dungeons more often, but they are expensive to start, that is for sure.

Yay for neverending soda :P

Also, yay for discovering the joys of funkslinging divine noise makers with cheaply buffed muscle :P Chester was still annoying to beat but nothing a handful of bandages couldn't solve :)

Edit - I was mildly amused by the drops though...I was forced to have a lower +item% fighting Chester due to my inability to win with items, yet I got three of his items and only two for the others. I suppose this was balanced by getting the skill books for Zombo and Oscus but not Chester. If only El Juan had been an Accordion Thief :P The Ballad on its own is worth 500k apparently so unless someone plans on making a perm high level accordion thief it seems selling it and putting the money into the clan store is the best option. Anyone want to claim it before I put it up for sale or want to convince me that we should keep hold of it for now?

If anyone wants prelude to precision they're welcome to it as well but thats only worth a few k so it'll prolly just sit in my inventory otherwise :P

Edit edit - It did just occur to me that I started a multi a while ago which I intended to use to meat farm to put into the clan store but got lazy and gave up, but turning it into an accordion thief for buffing people doing hobopolis may well be a somewhat decent idea. Thoughts?

I like the idea. El Juan was supposed to be a bot of sorts too, but is more just a character who can provide sauceror buffs and food for exceptionally cheap whenever I actually get on him. Having another multi to do all the accordian theif buffs would be extremely helpful. If you are willing, doing a run with that character as a pastamancer first to perm the +25% MP boost would be good, but not necessary. Otherwise, just powerleveling an accordian thief to a good level could give you something else to do.

Sidenote: Do not put yourself and your multi in a dungeon instance at the same time. That is something the admins are quite adamant about banning on. If it's just a buffing character, that's fine. Use mafia and get into the ballroom and press auto-adventure!

Also, since I haven't been on KoL with El Juan in a few days, how is Hobopolis going? Sounds like Frosty, Ol' Scratch and Chester are all down, at the very least. Anyone else taken a boss down that I haven't seen yet?
