What affects gaming most?
« on: August 16, 2011, 12:53:48 am »
What part of the computer controls most how games run? Is it a combination or is it mostly centered in one component? I'm talking games like WoW, Eve, minecraft, League of Legends.

The 2 most important are the CPU and the video card (the video card is usually the more important of the two in a 3D game), although the RAM, network card, and hard drive all play a lesser role.

Also, don't forget the fans... my laptop gets periods of huge lag in games it's way over spec for because the damn thing overheats.

So CPU, Video card, RAM, and cooling are the biggest? What would be adequate RAM for most modern games?

I'm looking at getting a new laptop, but I don't want to break the bank.
