Minecraft / A fix in sight!
« on: October 30, 2011, 05:31:18 am »

There is a fix for the solar array server killer, and I don't know if the quantum suit fix he mentions has anything to do with some of the crashes or not.  Just something else, besides Construction Foam, to encourage updating to v1.23, and also enhance the server some.

It does when you have to find the right version of IC with the server, and you have a headache.

V1.15 IC2

If not using the quantum doesn't stop the crashes, I'll go up and disable the entire solar array to see if that makes a difference.  I know some people were suffering minor lag whenever the thing is fully active and in the daylight.

As for the two hour window, I think I was on at that time, Bullseye has been using his quantum just about every chance he gets (and gets kicked for 'hacking' because of the speed more often than not), I spent some time running the reactor on incinerate while going for power (it's still setup, just turned off by redstone), and I've had my panels on about 75% instead of 50% lately (150 panels out of 200)

Minecraft / Re: Orbs of doom - we may be screwed for a few days

I do not believe orbs have an infinite lifespan, just a long one.  At this point I am going to have to retire from the server, atleast going out and doing things beyond my fort walls, until 1.9 because of this.  I just had a death about 15 minutes ago, and standing on the exp splat for 13 minutes I'm still at 2seconds per frame.  Yes, that's how much exp I've acquired over the weeks, especially since I ended up accidentally cleaning up a few other players' exp puddles too, so I am the ticking time bomb.  Already made the server crash from the sudden appearance of the fountain.

Is there a way to alter how many lines of log the screen will keep?  I find we get maybe a partial idea of what may have been going on when it throws up 'Killed', a longer log length might help us some on figuring out what causes the problem other than the fact 'the server couldn't keep up'.

Okay, since I appear to be one of few who can withstand the increased load, I have disabled half of my solar array by extracting the batboxes in that half.  If I'm the only one on I'll be using the whole thing, so if you come on to just me you might lag at first.  This 'might' be enough to stop the crashing though, we shall see

I have 2-3 stacks of unsmelted iron ore if you need some to test something out :P

That's okay, if I really need to do a load test I can just flip the creative mode switch and do it that way, I probably will just before committing resources to the task so I don't make 200 panels that can't be used.  Maybe sometime tonight or oh dear awful in the morning I'll try it and see what happens since I have admin access and can fix any damage I cause.  I do have reason to believe it has to do with the panels though, nightfall sends the lag away that me and a few others suffer on my island, I haven't tried going far yet (nether, laketown, etc).  Ah, that's the other thing, I recall something about portal use causing one of the crashes, has anyone been in frequent use of them lately?  If so we might be able to rule out the portals.

SERVER CRASH!

The server crashed when I was walking by Sonya's house. This might be related to the enormous solar array.

Blackblade got on as it crashed, he might not have installed the anti-crash mod right.

I have one way to try out if the solar array is the problem... ^^  I'm still a fair amount of iron away though.

Minecraft / Happenings in the Chaos Cluster world (IC2, 1.8.1)

Well established bunker located!  Connection established to it via Nether portals, need metallic boots to access without a long climb up the mountain.  Rumor has it there is a powerful solar array coating the top of this fort, all powering a mystical Matter Generator.  It's said that one can earn bits of the precious UU-Matter by helping clean the machine if it.  It is also said that at night, one might be able to see a brilliant glow off in the distance, somewhere just past the fort, and it looks like some kind of machine is generating this glow.  It is said that his machine is really a Nuclear Reactor, and with no guards or traps visible so it is possible one could sneak in and use it themselves!  Now and then the occupant returns with a backpack full of what must be raw ores, because shortly after the return a great ruckus is raised, one rivaling that you might hear in a mighty factory!  What other mysteries are within this mighty stone fortress?  Is the owner friend or foe?  Are there traps waiting for the foolish to enter, or are the machines unguarded and easily accessed by outsiders?

((More to come, I need sleep before I try to add on to this, but I'm welcome to others adding on themselves))

The bunker continues to grow!  It has expanded outwards, doubling the size of it's roof, more rooms must be getting added, and word has it there's a door into the hillside right there behind the fort.  Upon closer inspection, it has been found that there is a lever, and when flipped cobblestone is pushed up out of the floor!  Not just one piece, though, but three stacks, and there seems to be no end to them not matter how hard one may try to get rid of it all!

More reactors!  Upon a closer inspection, it would appear as if one massive reactor is meant for usage while the rest are setup as some kind of cooling tanks for components.  Perhaps this is how they manage not to melt anything down despite long hours of constantly running.

2PM central?  I'll 'try' to be on around that time then, atleast to check in and make sure the server is up.  I can't make ANY guarantees anymore though, I'm not alone in the house anymore and thus might be busy.

Now I remember, I did die. The zombie group while I was lumbering...

Anyway, Sonya, Thanks.

What is your username?

I am really going to be surprised if it is Firewind!

Your stuff got dumped in a chest in that one cave room lakeside, lots of stone tools if I remember right.

If anyone has any spare gravel, I need it for the nether city. But, were the portals spawned? Is this a new world?

I'm gonna go off on a limb here and say you're the one responsible for the splatter of exp I found outside my door.  The two portals currently spawned were placed by me, one is at the lake where we all started, the other is waaay overseas where I began construction.  Thanks for ensuring my bunker is sound, now if only I could make Reinforced Stone Buttons so they could stop getting blown off by every creeper who visits.  I'll come back with a chest to give you your stuff back.

I'm not sure if your mapping device can work in SMP, and even then I believe you'd need OP status to be able to use the teleport function.  As for running other mods, most won't interfere with you running on a server, although you do have to be careful not to put in conflicting mods (like two mods that both modify the same files or use the same IDs)

Update on the reactor: all components are cooled and ready, the magnetizer is now fully functional, but during your short catapult to the top you'll suffer approx 2 hearts of suffocation damage, seems the iron fences 'occupy' the whole block but allow you to enter it's space too, where you have to be with metal shoes to get launched.  I do not know how well it works for going down, but going up is in about a second.

EDIT: After leaving the cave the portal is in, turn right and look for a tiny tunnel dug into the stone, it shouldn't be more than 15 blocks away, that's where the magnetizer is

Installed and loaded it up without a hitch.

Opinions - as someone who hasn't set much up yet (made a mine, underground farm and not much else) would it be worth while just upping and moving to find an area with the new ores? I'm not sure how far out people have already explored so I don't know if its even feasible to carry everything with me over :P

Well, I decided I needed to move to start setting things up, but that's partially because I have massive plans (solar array, nuclear reactors that will wipe out a 35 radius if detonated...).  If you have more than one inventory worth of stuff to move, I'd recommend going out to where you want to be, finding a place to setup, then install a Nether portal and ignite it, but DON'T enter.  Instead, either travel back to another previously setup nether portal or get someone else to help you from the Nether at the same time as you go out.  Make a portal in the nether with coordinates as close to 1/8 of the overworld gate's coordinates as possible, but make sure  the Y coord matches or is a little bit higher.  Then travel through that new portal in the nether and you 'should' land in the one made in the overworld.  This is not guaranteed and could be a fight and a half, I'm still fighting with the system myself but after some struggles I did get a portal in the nether to link to a portal in the overworld where I wanted it to be.

At what point, if any, during adding those mods did you run the game? I'm thinking at this point that there's either specific points it has to be run at, or the sound library just doesn't work with Windows 7.

I personally ran after every step, and I made sure to get as far as loading up a world and even creating a few new chunks each time (when I first tried to just plug it all in THEN play my crash occurred on world entry).
