How to earn FP
« on: May 05, 2010, 01:44:29 am »
If you're new to TW, or if you've just never been involved in faction leveling, you probably don't know all of the ways to earn FP. This thread is a quick summary. If you need more details, post here, or just ask in faction chat.

Hadeus: This is basically capture the flag. The goal is to bring beacons to our FHQ. Each successfully captured beacon nets us 21 FP. There are always 2 beacons up, although of course this doesn't mean they're always somewhere accessible. To know where they are, you'll want a full probe net, which simply means you position a probe in the central sector of every quadrant, giving you full view of the entire planet... well, minus ones with enemy bases in them anyway. To capture a beacon, simply sit on it for a full turn, then issue the capture command. The max speed of a beacon carrying unit is 4, but the commands Move Out and Fall In *DO* raise your speed beyond this limit, and when you're near our base, the Command Tower will still function. Nothing else can increase your speed beyond 4 while holding a beacon. You CAN control both beacons, just not with the same unit.

Zedus: There is a beacon on Zedus, and while you control it, you gain FP every turn. The planet is very small (4x4 quads), which makes it pretty easy to find the beacon, and since you don't have to bring it anywhere, you're guaranteed at least a few FP. The catch is that this is a very heavy pvp planet, and you can usually expect that within 5-10 turns of taking the beacon, someone will drop to kill you for it. Definitely don't capture with units you mind losing.

Aldus: The beacon here is similar to Zedus except that it's normally 0.75 FP/turn, and increases to effectively 1.25 FP/turn if the Shak queen is alive. The low payout paired with the Shak interference make this a VERY unpopular place to earn FP... but this also means you'll almost never be challenged, so you may want to consider it... may. :P

Dominus: Dominus is a 9X9 planet. Quads on the outer ring have no node, but the other 49 do. To capture a node, simply stand on it, wait a turn, and issue the capture command. Every 600 turns, the planet awards FP based on the number of nodes controlled, but I don't know the exact rules for it. It's generally best to only go for it near the end of a 600 turn count, or ER or PGF will just clear whatever you take.

Infernus/Hellion: These planets have only 5 nodes (randomly placed), but the nodes give more FP on payout, and it's a progressive bonus. I believe the payouts are also every 600 turns. Nodes are heavily defended, initially by bandits, and then by whoever captured them. You have to throw buildings down 1 at a time, so try to cap when you have time to set up a decent defense. We're not really strong enough to mount a serious effort on these planets yet, but we can definitely get a few lucky captures in. One last thing of note, if any faction control ALL of the nodes, one becomes a super node that will pay 1000 FP on horizen. Needless to say, ER and PGF will both gun for it, so it's probably best to not trigger that unless the planet is about to end, or you have one hell of an epic defense ready.
