Way of the Surprising Fist
« on: September 01, 2011, 12:31:06 am »
Alright, so i'm about to finish my first Fist run (lol?) as Turtle Tamer.  A few things i've noted:

- Its nearly impossiable to buy skills or food/drink due to lack of meat, thus Knoll seems the ideal sign to go with
- 31337 scroll will cut your daily meat cost nearly in 1/2, so burning a semirare up there is a good idea
- Clovers in the casino for 300ish meat is a good idea
- Don't finish the Dun of Doom quest tel near the end so you can still get the 300 meat from Lowercase L
- Cake Shaped Arena is almost useless, so skills to +pet weight for the sorc speeds things up ALOT
- Knob market can't be unlocked since you can't wear elite outfit for the password
- Moxie class may be ideal since all the skills are 100% hit, and decent damage
- Starting the nemisis quest is no real big deal, as you can't finish it
- Play a class that you either don't need to learn the skills for/already have perm'd
- Use the Haram +400 meat adventure every day to pay for daily expences

I'll add to this as i go i suppose, trying AC next run!

This list is actually pretty insightful, Lomaz. You have clearly picked this game up very well since you started.

One of the big things that you point out is that having permed skills will help out tremendously. This is a major part of the game and, in my opinion, one of the weaker aspects of KoL. It does encourage you to combine different skills from different classes over a long period of time, so it keeps you playing, but I think there is too steep a curve to be competitive in anything in KoL.

I realize these are challenge paths, but most players would want to attempt them, but their difficulty and nuance presumably chase away all but the most dedicated of players.

I will personally give 1 million meat to the first person to do a 100% Black Cat Bad Moon Way of the Surprising Fist run :P

Are you still in the run or have you already ascended? Want to check this from the wiki:

According to Gemelli, familiars are not supposed to still randomly drop Meat. He did not say anything one way or the other about enthroned familiars. (Enthroned 5-15 Meat drops still occur.)

If familiars do still drop meat then it seems I could have a pretty easy time of it with my stocking mimc and an enthroned lep or something. If not then back to the drawing board :-/

Also it seems you could steam through some of these if you have a completed telescope and some spare Discount Telescope Warehouse gift certificates...but thats fair enough really I suppose :P

Finished my HC TT run threw fist the day or 2 after posting, took 17 days, kinda awful, but hey, i was playing a defensive class without the ability to use a shield, very very very messy..  i have just started an AC run and its going very well, from what i can tell, the only thing thats really affected by class since it's near impossible to get any skills is what you choose for a mainstat, or more flatly, a fister with lots of HP, MP, or Dodge.  so far this moxie run is about 10x easier then the TT run, simply because i'm not taking hits, and i have a better understanding the second time around on how to farm meat. adding to my list from earlyer, a couple more tactics i have come across:

Early on in a run, it may be profitable as soon as goblins are unlocked to start each day with the +500 meat from treasury, from there buy a couple permits and pray to get some worthless items, i use 1 clover in the kitchens for my daily food rations from knob grab bag, but the other clover(s) can be used in the casino for a quick 20 myst/moxie and 300 meat back, this is just about the only way to have decent income early on when you don't have lots of adventures to burn

Meat vortexes (or whatever the plural for em is) are handy in that i held onto mine until i got to the giants, where i could get the most meat i could for them.

If you don't have access to snowcones, or do not have several +pet weight skills permed, the end of the run can get very time consuming, as you can't get the pet spray from knob, and you can always afford the cake arena, i found myself in a rather large jam for that last acention, as i had NO +weight skills permed (that run i perm'd +50% MP, and +5 pet weight, huzzah!!)

Finally, if you still want the extra +11 karma from your epic quest you can always just finish the quest after freeing the king, and the fist restrict has been lifted, but chances are, with the fist skills (mainly the fact that fire fist can do several thousand damage, depending on your nemisis, it won`t exactlly be hard.

Oh also, you need to at least start the quest if you want all the skills (unless you already have the last one perm`d) as one of the scrolls is located in the fun house D:

Thats about it for now, day 3 of my second fist run, shaping up ALOT better then the TT one!

And GPH, upon choosing bad moon the special runs are disabled, so sadly, no 1m meat can be given out

.....and speaking of 1m meat, how about this trophy? :P

fisting for dollars    Donate one million Meat worth in items to charity

And i will personally give 1 million meat to anyone who completes the Our Lady of Perpetual Indecision quest.

I'm SC all the way...but I seriously seriously need to get around to perming more skills too <_< I've been too distracted lately by level 30 trophies :P

Once I've got that run out of the way to perm kung fu hustler I'm eyeing up wisdom of the elder tortoises or maybe I'll perm the torso skill...decisions decisions :P
