Introductions / I Received an E-mail
« on: June 29, 2018, 09:53:40 pm »
It has been a long time.

Sure, I've lurked here periodically, posting randomly in the shoutbox on occasion, but I haven't actually posted anything in a long time. Zippy's E-mail changed that. If nothing else, I can contribute a summary of my life from nearly the last decade.

To catch everyone up:

  • I graduated college, got a job working full time at the mouth of hell.
  • I moved to a small Midwestern city where I continue to make my home.
  • I had two kids, who combined to immediately take up all my time, and thus my forays onto the internet grew fewer and fewer.

I have quickly become a dinosaur. Games, memes, internet sites of great renown all flew past without even a hint of recognition. For those of you who have not had the privilege of growing old... it sucks.

Well, not all of it.

Anyway, it was good to see this place still running. I expect that I will not contribute much, as I have more affinity for fora than I do chat programs. Still, it's nice to see some very old handles popping up again.

I updated my signature with the new anniversary counter, but nearly everything else remains an accurate reflection of me.

I'm not going to guarantee anything, because my best intentions often go astray... BUT, if someone can bug me to do it, I can donate some items to the reclamation effort.

After I sold that CCW for way less than market value, I bought a number of Mr. A items after the fact that have greatly appreciated in value. While it pains me to part with those items, I could certainly do so, as they are no longer being actively used.

I think a good chunk of them are still on my person in-game, but I have a number of various and sundry items that could fund a rebuild.

Let me know.

Speaking of dumping meat into the clan stash, I rounded you out to 15 million for the stash.

I don't actually post on here much anymore, but I still lurk. I thought this was an interesting topic, so I decided to post.

I was playing Kings of Chaos (still around!) way back in the day (2003-04) and I was going it alone in Age 1, which worked out perfectly, because you could own more weapons than you had soldiers to operate them. Small guys could still take on the top ten. They changed that in Age 2, and I had to find a tribe/clan/group/whatever if I wanted to crack past the top 2,000, where I was comfortably sitting. Clicking links all day wasn't for me (or my dialup) so I just hung around the forums most of the time.

That was nearly eight years ago. CC was known as RA, and had about 5,000 members, maybe 50 of those being active forum-goers. Most of them were fun-loving, quirky guys as you might find on the Internet, with very little of the malice that you might find in 4chan or other bastions of filth. No, RA or CC is a pretty mellow place to be, with quite a few good people hanging out.

Update:

Well, pilz, you were a little too late on your congrats. Our little boy came into the world before you posted.

Yes, everything is fine, but he is about ten weeks early, so things are a little touch-and-go.

So, Tyred is officially a daddy.

I realize that it might be scary that the Internet (as we know it) could go kaput with these two bills, does it not stand to reason that no one, anywhere, could ever actually take down the Internet?

Based on the fact that the Internet is just a collection of computers all linked together (on a fundamental level) is it not possible (and in the event of these bills passing, inevitable) that the people who want to perpetuate the Internet in some form will?

Sure, forums and boards and social networks would get axed by this bill, as would many legitimate businesses. But I think that the lawlessness of the Internet still reigns supreme, and so long as their are enterprising yougn men and women who are willing to step up their own networks, the connectivity among people via their computers will never really be stopped.

Besides, wouldn't it be an interesting social experiment to see what people did without their precious Internet?

Good naming suggestions so far, but as I said, the name has already been chosen.

So as to not incite blasphemy against him at such a young age, I will only divulge his middle name:

You know that cheesy pickup line that goes something along the lines of: "Trouble's my middle name?" Well, our kid's actually will be.

Tyred

P.S. - Before you can say "You could also use 'Danger is my middle name'", we already thought of that, and we have a name in mind if we ever have a second boy :P.

The name has already been chosen. Had it been a girl, that would have been a different story.

Sorry, GPH. What would you have called him?

« on: September 20, 2011, 11:35:11 am »
@GPH: I do not have any slime gear. The only character I have entered the Slime Tube with is El Juan, and he is just buffed to the freakin' max to be able to take Mother Slime down in about 3 turns.

@Skeeter: You are correct in saying that adding any ML to Mother Slime is a bad idea. The Slime Hates It gear is NOT recommended for Mother Slime fights at all, because she will pwn the ever-loving-hell out of you.

For future reference, El Juan is still stocked and ready to go for another 34 Mother Slime fights, should they be warranted. He has just about every big buff in the game on him to effectively increase most of his stats by about 800% and he's got all the high-level spells to dispense damage in huge amounts. Just give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.

This list is actually pretty insightful, Lomaz. You have clearly picked this game up very well since you started.

One of the big things that you point out is that having permed skills will help out tremendously. This is a major part of the game and, in my opinion, one of the weaker aspects of KoL. It does encourage you to combine different skills from different classes over a long period of time, so it keeps you playing, but I think there is too steep a curve to be competitive in anything in KoL.

I realize these are challenge paths, but most players would want to attempt them, but their difficulty and nuance presumably chase away all but the most dedicated of players.

As a non-player with two tome skills (Shugar and Stickers) I will probably pick up a copy or two of this one. It looks like a couple of the items are worthwhile enough to have.

@GPH: If you have and hate the sugar tome, don't use it! Pick this one up with some meat (I can give you some, if you would like) and use this one more. It will certainly help out future ascensions and even basementing to some extent.

Approximate vocabulary is 28,100 words (putting me with GPH for "age" of 31).

I need to work on reading more...
